According to Avène, it can be used as a day cream and also overnight mask and for eye contours, which can essentially cut down on the number of different products applied each day.

The Hydrance Aqua Gel's popularity has also been amplified due to its ability to cater to a spectrum of skin types across a variety of ages.

From oily and dry to sensitive and combination, its formula appears to work its enchantment on a diverse range of skin concerns, winning hearts and complexions alike.

The moisturiser has garnered an impressive reputation on the Escentual website - with a staggering 92 per cent of reviewers - 22 out of 24 - singing its praises and eagerly recommending it to friends and fellow skincare aficionados.

Rowen, 40, who has combination skin, said: 'At 40, my skin needs more, however, leading brands have so many chemicals that cause redness. Avène, this magic little pot of lightweight gel cream, gives moisture where it is needed.'

Harriet, who is aged between 19 and 29 and also has combination skin, said: 'This gel is such a lightweight gel/water texture but packs such a punch with hydration. Such an all rounder for AM, PM or use a thicker layer as an overnight mask.'

One anonymous reviewer, who is aged over 40 and suffers from eczema, wrote: 'Without a moisturiser my skin cracks and bleeds. This aqua gel is uncomplicated and surprisingly hydrating. My friend who has rosacea swears by the gel too.'

Another anonymous reviewer, who is aged between 30 and 39 and has oily skin, said: 'I can't use most moisturisers as they're too greasy for my skin. This is just perfect - the texture is really light but moisturising, my skin already feels smoother.'

Kass, who is aged over 40 and suffers with dry skin, gave the product four out of five stars and appeared to shy away from giving it top marks due to its lack of scent.

She wrote: 'A French dermatologist recommended this range to me as it is highly unlikely to cause any negative reaction. For this reason it is non perfumed so don't expect a scent.'

Avène has also released its Hyaluron Activ B3 Cell Renewal Aqua Cream-in-Gel, available in a 50ml refillable glass jar for £38.00, and is said to create a 'glass skin effect,' according to Ceryn from the Escentual Beauty Team.

Meanwhile, beauty aficionados have been going crazy for a £39 sold out tinted moisturiser from Charlotte Tilbury, claiming it gives them a 'filtered appearance' and feels 'like you're wearing nothing on your skin.'
